Sets, Props, and Costumes

Props, set pieces, costume pieces:
For the set:
• Unit Set with Moroccan arches wide enough and set so that cast members can hide behind
• Train set (minimal representation) - optional
• five tables with chairs (preferably vintage, wicker, bentwood etc) – matching is not necessary
• Dressing table
• One large (very large) potted palm in a movable container or on wheels (it could be fake or a set piece)
• Wicker chairs and small easily moved drink table
• One sturdy chair on casters
• Bar with stools
• Upright or grand piano (for stage)
• Music stands for musicians on stage
• Lighted sign that says “Rick’s Café Americain”
• A backdrop where the lighting changes according to the time of day
Costumes:
• Leather Bomber jacket for Jackson (preferred vintage)
• Belly dancing costume for Janina; also a long veil
• Vintage women’s hats and gloves for traveling; straw, broad brim
• Heavy woven (or appearing heavy woven) women’s suit for Dee in first scene
• Shoulder pads for women’s costumes circa 1948
• Moroccan robes, hooded (two)
• Men’s hats circa 1940s
• Men’s ties circa 1940s
• Double breasted suits, one white; two pairs of white pants
• White tie and tails for Wheezy’s character
• Evening clothes for all the women
• Dressing gowns for Margie and Dee
• Long johns and suspenders for Wheezy’s costume
• Trench coats; Fedoras (as many as we can get for ensemble)
Props:
• Pack of playing cards
• Suitcases (four or five) – prefer vintage
• Movie fan magazines, one with Clark Gable’s picture
• Pad and pencil that fits in a man’s pocket (2)
• Drink glasses, liquor bottles
• Wine glasses, fake wine in wine bottles
• Bazaar items for sale—brass, baskets, cloth, necklaces—and large baskets to throw them in
• Fake gun (at least one, preferably two)
• Champagne bottle with some kind of liquid that doesn’t stain and dries colorless (probably club soda)
• Checkbook and pen
• Frying pan (big iron one)
• Bats/ sticks/ anything that can be used for a weapon (the odder the better)
• Large Menus (at least two)
• Large Hook (as a weapon)
• Knives (at least two)
• Ropes or scarves to be used as a weapon
• Cloth to wipe down the bar
• Handkerchiefs for the women and men
• Poker chips
• Folding money
• Table cloths (five white for 2nd act; five of some sleezy fabric or even checks for first scene)
• Table centerpieces of some sort for second act
